Thursday Photo Shoots with LB
It's been awhile.
Some of you who have been reading from the beginning might remember how diligent I was with the Thursday photo shoots with The Littlest Buddy, and just so you don't think I am a total slack ass that gave up on it... I offer an explanation. it's quite simple, and I just never thought to mention it, well because I am a total slack ass.
Thursdays used to be much different for us around here. Two dudes with the house to ourselves, LB and I used to spend just about the entire day together on our own with Cole at the salon. Now that he is doing the school ALL day thing, we barely have enough time in the day just to play and eat snacks when he gets home. So anyway, I figured I would try to find a way to fit it into our routine, which was easier then normal today as LB is on TV restriction from a late night poop touching incident that I refuse to blog about. So today... we did some shooting.
With not much time and LB in the foulest of moods without his "Wow Wow Wubbzy" fix, we settled for a low stress shoot. I have been wanting to practice more with my piece of shit failing flash, so I put it on a chord and slapped a dome on it, and just let LB play with the light. He was occupied and fascinated with it and it gave me time to dial in some good settings. It proved to be a tough exercise as he rarely kept the light in the same place for long. So I guess today was officially LB's first day as a photo assistant. Way to go buddy, you did great.

For anybody that is trying to learn a little lighting 101 with your camera and your friend the flash, I always point people to the same sight (as I think most people do, because it is the freaking best). The STROBIST Treat yourself.
You may have also noticed that I have not been writing as much and I am happy to report that it is because I have been redirecting it into a little something that you will have the chance to read soonish. A ton of work is going into this project by many people. The result should blow your fucking minds :)
I also want to say that the American Apparel thing that went down this week was such an amazing little shot in the arm for Cole and I. Way cooler then even President Obama's speech. It was so cool to get the support and comment love and I hope everyone knows it is appreciated in our house.

The pictures are great, I'm thanking you profusely for the link to the strobist (haven't been there before), and I have questions about the poop touching. Pretty sure I don't want them answered, but I have questions.
Awesome! The pictures are beautiful.
Love the lighting on LB... as if he needs any trick lighting to be adorable?
TV restiriction is a catch 22. Extra time, but foulest of evil moods. Sometimes I wonder who I am really punishing with that one?
Is it wrong that I want to hear about the poop incident?
And why is it that boys like LB get the greatest looking eyelashes? He's adorable!
Make sure you schedule some time in for a rousing game of "kickity kick ball" with LB!
If you don't know what that is ask LB.
Peace - Rene
a. I've just gone back and started reading your first couple of posts (because I'm always curious how/why people started particular blogs) and just happened to have read the one about how the Thursday shoots came about. I may just have to go check out the other shoots in between.
b. I am glad you refrained from blogging about said late night poop touching incident, but the fact that you mentioned it conjured up many images that I could've totally done without so really, did you spare me anything in the end? no, no I don't think you did.
c. I'm one of those idiots that bought a DSLR and has no idea how to use it. My flickr page proves that point over and over again with every pic uploaded. One day I'll learn what all the buttons and words mean. I just point and shoot and then push buttons, turn dials and stuff and keep shooting until I like what I see. At least I try, right?
d. I never write such lengthy comments.
Great pictures...he is so darn adorable!
The photos are fab! Tell me again how you've managed to escape being gainfully employed with such talent? Are you hiding your light under a bushel? Or is it just so competitive its unreal?
Poop touching? aaaaahahahaha
Amazing pictures!
Beautiful images. Great moments, captured perfectly.
i don't know man.... i am totally intrigued now about the poop touching incident. everybody poops but not everybody touches poop. we all come so very close everyday but just in the nick of time good old TP saves the day. i am sure he was just expressing himself. as for all the other stuff you wrote about, i've already given high fives twittered you to death so i'll save you the rehash. oh, and about the strobist... great site, i stumbled into that a while back and it is definitely worth its weight in poop! HA!
Those are really cute pictures. Well LB is a-freaking-dorable, anyway!!!
I love the way they're kind of spooky and cute at the same time.
blessings!
More beautiful shots. So, is he sleeping any better, now that the allergy thing is figured out?
thanks for reminding me about the strobist site. i totally forgot it even existed.
and I may have missed it, but were photos from your last assignment ever posted? totally understand if it was delayed - just looking forward to seeing what everyone submitted :)
Your blog is just incredible. The layout, the content. Love pass by so now and then and catch up with your writings :)
I love the shots- and can't wait to get my mind blown. I think.
Awesome shots, as usual sir.
I am waiting anxiously for the mind-blowage.
bring it on!!
excellent pics. I have always had a love/hate relationship with the flash.
I find scotch to be a fine antivenom for the WowWowWubbzy injection.
For me, not Wee Lass.
Great shots.
Your photos are always amazing, but the second one had me staring at my screen for 5 minutes. Beautiful.
Just found you. Your photos are AMAZING!
This is my first time seeing your blog, but I had to pass this along...your photos are freakin amazing!

I still think you're a slack ass, but great pics as usual.
No thanks needed. It's a treat to see your photos and Cole's expanding belly somewhere other than your blog.
Can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve. Knowing you, it's gonna be great!
Now I know why I never took up photography— I'm just not that good.
I know it's like asking someone to tell you a joke in a foreign language you don't understand, but perhaps you can highlight on those things that you learned from this exercise. Even if I don't understand, someone who knows photography might (or should).
I love that first photo. You'd never know he was in a foul mood.
I need a little buddy to take pictures of!
your photos are beautiful! you capture really great moments.
Those pictures are beautiful!
I am really looking forward to hearing about this new project.
I love the pic with LB and the light. He is going to break some hearts one day with those big brown eyes.
PS. Leaving a comment on blog is really intimidating but i wanted to say thanks for the nice comment you left me.
you have a great eye for photography, it too is a love of mine for some 36 years. i started in the 7th grade with an old time kodak pop up camera my dad gave me. your son is adorable and takes to the camera quite well. i just happened accross your post this afternoon, i hope to come back and read more when i have time. your wife is beautiful and also takes to the camera well. enjoy your family and the new one to come, and never forget you can never have enough pictures. have a great weekend!!
I like that even a slack ass has some sort of a routine... I take that as hope for me one day. Flash is wear I'm stuck learning and playing too. It hard for me to justify more camera toys to the new hubby 'till I come up with more tangible work. I like what you got going on, keep it up Tiger.
P.S. Geez, whats with the masses intrigue for the poo?? LOL
" LB is on TV restriction from a late night poop touching incident that I refuse to blog about."
I just laughed so loudly in my quiet place of work.
Those photos are amazing, Ryna!
I would have never guessed they were done with flash. The light is so soft
those pictures totally sucked!
well, really they didn't, but i didn't want to be just another "those pictures are beautiful" kinda person today.
Hell, yeah - he did great!! :) Such a handsome young fellow!
