You People are Freezing

As an exercise in compassion I wanted to try and be of some comfort and create a little window of escape for you all trapped in eternal winter this year. I have been reading loads of posts about the never-ending freeze out and it got me feeling guilty down here in Florida typing this with my windows open enjoying a warm 75 degrees with a breeze and the azaleas blooming. Wait! Shit! Compassion not cruelty. Okay so....

I always loved the movies where the character had some little tropical paradise postcard clipped to their dashboard, or stuck in the corner of a mirror, where they would stare and think of living out warm lazy days. So before you all go MAD from winter. Just remember that spring is coming and that Sun is going to be cooking us all soon enough. Until then.

go on, roll down that hill, run thru the fields, it's okay

There you are, jump in that lagoon, play in that waterfall

Here. Have a few dozen drinks while you bake in the sun

No thanks palm tree, I don't need your shade, I want to soak up the sunshine

Do I want to swim in the pool or the ocean? Tough choices

Are you feeling better?

Maybe just lay here in the grass. Remember grass?

OR... just float around a little and relax

How was that? Did you have a nice escape? I hope that was nice for you. You're Welcome :)

You gotta be cruel to be kind - eh? Well, I just crawled back into bed and turned the electric blanket up to High because Spring doesn't arrive until mid-May.......sadist.

Wow! Thanks for Super Photosynthesizing me!

I have had enough of Winter in New England and I want to skip right over mud and black fly season and jump right into summer.

Thanks for the green

Peace - Rene

You great big beautiful man, you. It was warm-ish here and things were starting to come out of the ground. Won't up to snow this morning though. Fuckin snow.

Walter February 26, 2009 11:06 AM

Mama Dawg February 26, 2009 11:07 AM

Karencilla February 26, 2009 12:12 PM

Ryan you just made me miss my country. I want to go home.. hot sun and green grass.

no wait.. I'd better enjoy the cool weather here before i'm back to the humid and hot jungle.

Lili February 26, 2009 12:13 PM

I so needed that!
Unfortunatly, the escape dosen't last long - if I turn around I see the cold and gray NY sky. Total buzz killer.

Great pictures!

It's 40 something in my neck of New York State today. A nice little break until, oh, tomorrow, when the temperature nose-dives faster than whatever it is that nose-dives.

What a great escape but nope don't feel much better because I am watching this damn white stuff fall from the sky and we have at least 6 inches already and no signs of it slowing down...ugh. I have an appointment with a snow shovel in my near future!

Laura February 26, 2009 12:19 PM

Ok so when are we leaving for the water. Your are amazing and wonderful. I love your eye.

Miss Grace February 26, 2009 12:23 PM

I'm in California and it never drops too much below 60, but those pictures are still a lovely escape.

The Panic Room February 26, 2009 12:23 PM

Alright! It's working (for some of you) I am glad this didn't backfire too badly. I know that I am guilty of staring into a picture and taking a hike for awhile and it always feels good. It usually stays with me for awhile.

ChurchPunkMom February 26, 2009 12:33 PM

thank you.. that was lovely.

grass is green? huh.. who knew?

Your Ill-fitting Overcoat February 26, 2009 12:41 PM

This post is perfect timing! I was just about to tweet about how I FORGOT THAT SUMMER EXISTS.

FrankandMary February 26, 2009 12:41 PM

Gee, I was happy with 49 degrees this morning when I went out; this has me aware of what I am REALLY missing. Hmm compassion or a dig?

Nice shots! Makes me wish I was in Hawai'i!

Erin February 26, 2009 1:00 PM

I remember that day! Nothing but hot sun, cool water, and great friends. I miss you!!! Oh, and I hear congratulations are in order. I'll call you this weekend to dote all over you and tell you how amazing and talented you are!

Christine Gram February 26, 2009 1:12 PM

That was wonderful. I'm so glad I'm going to AZ next week!

Undomestic Diva February 26, 2009 1:23 PM

I hate you for that and I'm here in sunny So. Cal.

Carrie February 26, 2009 1:30 PM

I got about 7 words from end of first paragraph and was thinking don't give me that 75 degrees azaleas blooming crap but I stayed with it and then was like Ok, this is so fantastic!!

As you know, I'm planning my trip to PR and seriously have been looking at pics daily bc I need the sun. This was really sweet of you to do for those of us that live in climes where we get a REAL winter.

Funny thing, today I wake up to snow and now it's the most beautiful sunny day out...(cold as shit tho still tho)

BTW.. you're like a hop, skip and a jump from PR...have you ever been? I can't believe how many people I know are going this year. crazy!

The Panic Room February 26, 2009 1:43 PM

@ Carrie- Seriously people are like: I am broke, I can't go to disney!! So where do we go? Puerto Rico. They are going to be rolling in American Pennies after this wave of tourism they are getting. SO many people are going. And no I have never been. I haven't traveled in a long ass time and that doesn't sit well with me. Take good pictures! Or just hire me and I will follow you all around and take pictures of your vacation for you :)

@ Undomestic- You don't REALLY hate me. You just think I suck.

@ Christine - AZ, it can be nice? :)

@ Erin - Oh man I miss you! That was a fun day wasn't it?! Hang-gliding and rope swings in the summer.

@ Mander - Quiet you down in the Keys.

@Mary - A dig? Me? I was actually feeling bad for the folks in snow today. It must suck.

@ Overcoat - I'm glad I posted these pics today and warmed you up a little to the idea of summer.

@ CPM - actually our front lawn is dead and brown from the freeze we had this month. :(

Kaci February 26, 2009 1:51 PM

A thousand thank yous for this, because it definitely was still snowing when I got out of bed this morning.

Cheers!

Amy@Bitchin'WivesClub February 26, 2009 2:45 PM

There is a place in heaven for people like you, Ryan....

Thank you!

Court February 26, 2009 2:52 PM

I'm in warm TX but thanks for the beautiful pics! Fabuloso!

MaNiC MoMMy™ February 26, 2009 3:05 PM

Yeah, it's pouring fucking rain here in Chicago. But alas, in just (hold please, while I count ...) 48 days, Mr. Manic will whisk me off to one of those photos (not sure which one as it is a surprise, but I will definitely need my passport) to celebrate my turning 40. My only request was to wake up on a beach with him somewhere. He is taking care of it.

So, thanks for the preview.

Joanie February 26, 2009 4:45 PM

I cranked my heat up a bit and that helped me enjoy the warm pictures. Thanks!!!
I promise not to complain about the summer heat.

Jules February 26, 2009 5:53 PM

I USED to like you....

Errant February 26, 2009 6:12 PM

awww .. i love these pics :) .. it's almost summer here ..

Carrie February 26, 2009 7:24 PM

Hmmm, I may just consider. Shit why not, it would be cheap to fly you in from FL. Now, from Seattle, that would be diff, you'd be staying home for sure :)

SSP February 26, 2009 9:14 PM

that was so awesome it made me get on a plane yesterday and fly down here my ownself (lauderdale). just kidding, but it is nice to live in a nice climate place when the rest of the country is so miserabe, ain't it? and i did go back to the beginning and read your whole blog last night...ohhhhh, it's all becoming much clearer now...

SweetPeaSurry February 26, 2009 9:43 PM

Too late, I'm already crazy mad from winter. High pitched cackling and pulling out of clumps of (once quite lovely) hair.

Wandering around with inside out shirts and pants.

I put all my summer clothes in a big pile and tossed them in the air like confetti ... fook it! Winter insanity has set in!

anymommy February 27, 2009 12:25 AM

I'm not sure if I love you or hate you ;-)

Those are absolutely gorgeous pictures.

Laura O. February 27, 2009 9:05 AM
