Breaking

Cole and I started a little tradition when we would go on travels where she would leap into the air for a picture, so someday we would have a collection of these jumping pictures from all the places we have gone together. Can you tell I'm series obsessed?! As you can see we haven't had the chance to go to many places together so far in this young marriage. I was looking at this little collection this morning (bummed that I was missing one from Big Sur) because I have been thinking about taking a vacation. A vacation?! But How? We're a bunch of broke jokes and we just had a baby! But I'm talking about a vacation from myself. More specifically from this blog. I have a ton of catching up to do on photo projects, and need to focus on some new client gathering before we are thrown in the poor house. So I am going to step away from the blog for a little spell. It could be a quick refreshing getaway, or a nice long lingering break. I have no idea. I just know I need to get to work on making some more scratch so I can get this gorgeous lady jumping into the air, in front of some new super awesome places.

Salinas Valley

Coney Island

Sarasota Bay

I have to say, the comments and the response to this blog has been absolutely overwhelming and unexpected. It just keeps growing and finding more readers, and I have sat in front of google analytics with my jaw open this last month just blown away by the response. So a big warm thank you for reading from this little family. We appreciate every comment, and email, and subscription. So I shouldn't be gone too long. But I do need to focus on this family and get us back to comfortable while Cole is still on leave from work. I have a HUGE project to finish with the maternity series, and another really great surprise for kids & parents that will launch in late August that I have been getting consumed with, and a photo business to try and get off the ground. So with that... I will be back with a bunch of news and stories, and pictures of LB and Tessa Tangerine, and Cole and I have gathered all of our inspirations that are dedicated to healthy living and will be doing a health week with lots of amazing guest posters. She is excited to stop bleeding and take her body back.

AND... If you haven't added me on twitter yet, please do so. Here is the LINK. I will be lurking around in my google reader like always, so I will be reading.

Enjoy your break and may you be profitable in all your capital producing ventures! I also hope that LB's transitioning phase continues smoothly or improves with extra family-time! Good luck!

Kristina July 14, 2009 10:02 AM

Good luck with all of your projects, and enjoy this time with your family-- it goes by much, much too quickly.

Lili July 14, 2009 10:03 AM

What a fun series! It reminds me of one of our wedding picture... the photographer wanted us to jump like this. My husband was kind of uncomfortable with the idea and I was totally uncomfortable because of those super high heels I was wearing (and I also didn't want to ruin my hair before the ceremony). Anyways, we did it and what came out of it is so hilarious!

Sara Rose July 14, 2009 10:04 AM

Enjoy. Trust me, you'll be amazed at how clear headed everything becomes with blogging when one takes a break for a bit. Hugs to you and yours!

Oh man, I'm obsessed with jumping pictures. My tradition is getting one for each season. It's funny to see the background and my clothing change with each one. Here's winter: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3560/3321089202_4e6ba5d9c5.jpg?v=0

You go do what you need to do. The Interwebz will be here when you get back.

Dear Ryan & Cole,
I've been following you guys since week 23 if I remember correctly. This blog became a part of my daily routine very quickly and every week I was so looking forward to the new belly picture & inventive LB-pics going up. I was worried when Cole got sick and went into the hospital, like I think many readers were.
Cole, even though I don't know you I have to say I'm proud of you. You seem like a first-class lady. The way Ryan writes about you, it seems you look at life, pregnancy, birth, parenting in such a whole, loving, original & refreshing way. Giving birth without any type of drug etc is something not a lot of women in the US do anymore and I love that you just went for it. In Holland, that's where I'm from, many woman still choose drug-free home-births. So luckily I never thought of your decision as dangerous or strange. I find it admirable and strong. From what I read I think that you are a great mother, and you are very lucky to have found Ryan. I find the the two if you very inspiring. Your relationship is beautiful, fresh, fun and so loving. Finding a man who will love you and love your son as much as he would love his own child is rare. If only we could all be so lucky to find the kind of love you two have.

Ryan, I fully support you taking some time off, although I will miss stopping by here everyday. I wish all of you all the luck, love, hapiness for experiencing these first months with gorgeous Tessa Tangerine. I send you lots of strength, love and understanding for this adjustment period with awesome LB. That kid sounds great and lovely.

I hope to be back soon, reading more fabulous stories.

What a fansmashingtastic blog. Betty at the Keeper of the Skies sent me over and I'm so glad she did. Enjoy your break but I am looking forward to reading more.

DebH July 14, 2009 10:48 AM

I wish you the best, but truly, I just found you and now you are taking a break?? I am a widowed young woman with 5 children who thoroughly enjoys your read. I too love life to the fullest and have an optomistic approach to everything. Everything works out in good time and I do sincerely wish you a Happy, Productive time off! Perhaps just a photo or two?? That would be enough to let me know you are well and family life is GOOD!!

Aimee July 14, 2009 10:50 AM

Best of luck! I look forward to your return, but know how good a blog break feels! I love the jumping series, it looks so fun and carefree, just like vacations should feel!

Nicole July 14, 2009 10:56 AM

okay okay fine. i love this blog and LOVE when a new post shows up in my reader.

purejoy July 14, 2009 10:59 AM

well, i for one will miss you, but i guess with one last person to keep up with, i can get some work done too! as i was noticing your new post, thus the nudge to check out what's going on in the panic room, i thought to myself. . .

jump!!

Jay Tee July 14, 2009 11:02 AM

Snuggle down with your babies and your wife--we internet bugs can wait while you get cozy.

And sell lots of photo stuffs. You're a brilliant photographer. My camera is in the shop, and in its absence, my amateur inner photographer lives vicariously through you.

rock on, man.

Renee July 14, 2009 11:05 AM

Enjoy your break and go do something awesome that you can come back and tell us about! :)

Jaden Paige July 14, 2009 11:17 AM

You have the best ideas for series. Ever.

I love the Cole jumping pics. I remember when you posted that first one a while back thinking, "WOW- what a great pic!"... I'm so glad you decided to turn it into more.

We'll miss your words... But I'm glad you're taking a time out to enjoy your family and get back on track with your projects :) Best of luck with everything in the coming days!

Miss Grace July 14, 2009 11:36 AM

The Salinas Valley seems like an odd vacation destination, unless you're on a John Steinbeck tour or something (I'm from nearISH to there).

Have fun on your mini-break.

Didn't I read somewhere or other that you're going to be at BlogHer? See you there?

mrssoup July 14, 2009 11:37 AM

I'll miss reading you, but you need to take some time for you! Enjoy your precious Tangerine and Cole and LB as well. Time is so fleeting, soak it up!

I cannot wait to see what else you come up with!

Eternal Lizdom July 14, 2009 11:38 AM

Paternity leave!! Totally understandable... you'll be missed and all will rejoice upon your return!

LynzeeJay July 14, 2009 11:39 AM

The blog world is so weird. I feel as if a friend is telling me we're not going to talk for a while.

But know a girl in San Diego will miss turning on her computer in the morning and getting a privilaged glance at a fantastic little family that she's grown to adore. Good luck on everything and look forward to having you back soon!

Kymberli July 14, 2009 11:43 AM

Having just found you, I'll miss you when your gone. Although, this gives me the chance to start from the beginning and work my way up. :)

I hope that all of your new connections are rolling into some solid work opportunities for you. Just from what I've seen in the short couple of weeks I've been around, people would be insane not to tap into your creative genius and kind soul.

Not an ass kisser here - just someone whose into reading about other strong dads and husbands like my own.

sabrina July 14, 2009 11:50 AM

Man! She seriously caught some air in those photos! Good luck, and don't be gone too long! Sometimes I look at all your photos before I even start reading your post! You have a great talent, Ryan, and I hope that all your hard work pays off. Best of luck to you and your family. I'll be here (just like all your other readers) when you come back!

Sarah @ BecomingSarah.com July 14, 2009 12:37 PM

Enjoy the vacation! Everybody needs a break sometimes =)

Also, what a great tradition. We have our own traveling traditions too and it's always so cool to look back at the photographs and compare them all =)

I can't wait to see more of your family and your projects when you're back, but I hope you really get what you're looking for finished in the meantime. Also, best wishes for LB's transition =)

Rich n' Aliy Seebach July 14, 2009 12:40 PM

Good luck with the client growth, and vacations. That is funny that you and Cole have done this my fiance and I have done the same thing. I always have a picture of me jumping on all of our travels. And any photoshoot of children I do I always make sure to get at least one. It is just such a whimsical photo, beautiful portray of action.

Your daughter is beautiful, as is your adorably handsome son.

Ohh really??? Do you have to?? Ok I guess I understand :)

Good luck and all the best to you, Cole, LB and LT. Everything is going to come together. All of us here will be waiting anxiously for new updates and photos.

Betsy July 14, 2009 12:47 PM

What's Cole's exercise of choice anyway? She's like, ripped. In that spritely kind of way, not the female bodybuilder kind of way.

I think a break is in order. You've been doing really rich updates in a manic kind of way. So much so that I need to go back and reread some. Take a long stay away and help us addicts recover.

Karencilla July 14, 2009 1:08 PM

we will miss you!!
i love the series.

big hugs to cole, LB, tessa tangerine and you.

Zoe July 14, 2009 1:19 PM

Good for you. I hope you get to do everything you need to. It must be hard enough dragging yourself away from your lovely family to work without having to keep us posted on a regular basis too. Good luck and have fun! Hugs to all four of you.

Bri July 14, 2009 1:23 PM

I was just thinking yesterday about how your blog is the first one I look for to be lit up in my reader and how excited I get to see what new amazing photo or hillarious rant I will witness...

Good thing my artist husband decided to start a daily sketch journal ('skournal' if you will). Maybe it'll keep me from missing the Panic Room too much. Check it out if you don't already have too much to keep up with (he's only done 2 so far).

http://evo.dmlcorp.net/2009/07/11/skournals/

P.S. You may know him as the 'anonymous game developer' but I think it's ok to blow his cover at this point because he and his programmer-partner are officially inde!!

Zoe July 14, 2009 1:24 PM

ps Those jumping pics leave me with a great big grin on my face. They scream "Happy happy joy joy".

cecilia castillo July 14, 2009 1:24 PM

I will be looking forward for the comeback.

Best of luck! Enjoy your break and we will miss you!

Janet July 14, 2009 1:25 PM

I can't decide which one of those pics is my favorite...although I must admit she looks so romantic and whimsical and lovely in that third one that it might just (barely) win over the others. :)

Go do what you gotta do. But you'll be back, you love us too much. :) (That, and you'll surely feel guilty about the emails you get from fans suffering PTPR withdrawl symptoms.)

Hyperventilating already,
Janet

Hi there Ryan & Cole.
Im trying with all of my might to not be a misery guts and wahhh wahhh wahhh about you having a break from the blog. !!!

I've followed since week 17 as a "Blog Virgin" and I just want to thank you. On occasion my husband has joined me in reading your posts, and has been wonderful for us to bounce our own views, and experience your journey together.

I think for my husband, it is refreshing to see another male, just so so so in love with his GORGEOUS and INTELLIGENT wife, and oozing the utmost respect for each other.
Your honesty and frank words have helped us with our decisions to have children.

I cant for a second pretend that i know what Im talking about as we dont yet have children, but guys.... you are an inspiration.

We are of the same school. Fight the aweful pinks for girls, banish the carrying a gozillion strollers, nappy bags! Embrace pre loved furniture etc, and home made spaces are more loved! Keep life simple aye. We are also self employed, and love it. The flexibilty of raising children will hopefully outweigh the constant niggling of bringing in a successful income.

So yes. ill have to find another addiction for a while,

But I just wanted to thank you all for your honesty.
And from the bottom of the world in New Zealand, We wish the four of you too,
all the love in the universe.

Rebecca.

Emily July 14, 2009 6:32 PM

*sigh* you have the most insanely gorgeous wife. I mean, I know I don't have to tell you this, but seriously, could she be more hot? You guys have so much fun together, I adore it. My husband and I have fun too, I think it's a shame that more husbands and wives don't seem too.... Enjoy each other.... always... and in all ways. *grin* -e

natasha July 14, 2009 7:38 PM

Best of luck with your break, Ryan. I hope everything works out for you and your beautiful family :) I never cease to be amazed at how freakin' cute and gorgeous Cole is!

I will miss your posts, though! Your blog is the first one I check when I get to work in the morning, lol.

Kathleen North July 14, 2009 8:07 PM

Have a great break!

Keri July 14, 2009 8:28 PM

I've been following you since week 26 or so, and have been wondering when you would take a break to enjoy your amazing 3 week old Tessa and help LB adjust to his new sister. I have an almost-four year old and an eleven month old and I know how challenging that sibling integration can be. Congratulations on your amazing family, and thank you so much for writing so candidly and thoughtfully about pregnancy, home birth (my girls were both born at home) and the inspiration you so obviously get from Cole and your children. I'll look forward to reading more when you return.

He wears Nature Babycare Diapers. July 14, 2009 8:35 PM

Awwwwww! I'm totally bummed that I've just started reading and now have to wait. Oh well, I really enjoy reading your blog and viewing your photos. You have such great talent!
Looking forward to your future posts after your hiatus.

Enjoy your break. Ya'll deserve it.

LMJ July 14, 2009 9:53 PM

Ha - I need some sort of patch too! I bet American Apparel sales will plummet! Thank God Orangette just came back from her break; maybe that'll help me get my daily blog fix;)

Best to the entire fam!

Merilee July 14, 2009 10:15 PM

Wow I cannot tell you how much I LOVE this idea! I'm assuming you'd have to have a pretty good camera to do it just right.

Anna Elena July 14, 2009 11:06 PM

I will be heartbroken not to read about you, cole, and the kiddies daily.

But you have my permission (because I bet you needed it and wouldn't sleep right tonight without it) to go pursue whatever you need/want to, get inspired, spend time with your gorgeous family, and come back with lots of awesomeness to share.

Anonymous July 14, 2009 11:30 PM

Great series, I hope it continues until you are both old and gray. I thought you might be interested in this website. It's a woman who started a photography business this year and is doing well, thought it might give you inspiration.
Good luck and take care,

This is my first comment! :) I have been reading your blog since 'week 21' and I have to say: I love it! I recommended to a friend and he is enjoying very much. He and his wife are waiting a little girl pop up from the belly in december. So cute!

So... All the happiness of the universe to your family!

Regards from Brazil,

Bárbara

i've just spent a few minutes perusing - and this is one of the most amazing blogs i've ever read. if it doesn't annoy...i'd love to check back in now and then - and maybe grab my hubby and make him read it too. happy new baby days to you and yours. bb

I'm 36 weeks pregnant, and have been following Cole's (and your) progression since I think week 21? It's been so cool to see what you guys have gone through before I've gotten there. Will miss reading your blogs and rants. Hope all is well with the fam, and look forward to seeing pics soon. Good luck with everything!!

Well, I'm bummed but you have to do what you have to do. I left my online diary site completely a few weeks after my daughter was born, because I needed a new outlet. It felt good.

Good Luck! Your family is amazing, love them all you can!

Just stumbled across your blog and LOVE IT! I wish I would've thought about a weekly belly pic...

Lindsay July 18, 2009 12:19 PM

Although I don't know you or your family personally, I have been following your blog since Cole was about 20 weeks along (I promise I'm not a creep!). I have kept quiet for so long now that I figured it was time to say hello. You have the most beautiful and loving family! I hope you enjoy your break and get to spend some time with you fam. :-) Thanks for letting me into your life!

Amy@Bitchin'WivesClub July 22, 2009 9:15 AM

I can tell you, coming off my own almost two month break from blogging, it is wonderful and daunting. Enjoy the freedom and shake off the compulsion to read everybody's blogs. It's OKAY! Everyone will still be doing kinda the same thing when you get back.

And download TweetDeck, if you haven't already, and start tweeting instead! ;)
