The Cribs Preview
Our little baby room that Cole and I pieced together is UP at Apartment Therapy on the Oh Dee Doh site for a little picture tour, and some words on how the room all came together. Apartment Therapy has been Cole's favorite blog since I met her, so she was pretty thrilled when she saw the Maternity Series had made an appearance there, and now the nursery will have a little home within their pages. It proved to be a huge challenge to light and take pictures of this little mini room, but in the end I think I got it figured out. I definitely had a few "I suck at this" moments. I remembered my time on film sets working as a set decorator in the Art Dept and was like... OH yeah, when we couldn't get the shot, we moved all of the shit on the camera side out of the way, so we could get the angle, and then moved it all back (which is why I felt like a furniture mover most of the time). So I squeezed into corners of the room, and managed to get this photographed for Cole. I hadn't shot any interior stuff since a year ago when I was doing shoots for a high end stone company and realized then, and was reminded yesterday how much I enjoy doing it.
Now as far as our attempts at creating an original space for the baby on the way, here is a little preview of the post that will be up later this afternoon at Oh Dee Doh. I will update when it goes live, so until then, here you go ...
The theme for our nursery was Hand Made and Hand-Me-Downs. Money has been tight to say the least, and there was a point when creating a space for the baby didn’t seem like it was going to be much of anything beyond a hand me down crib and matching dresser drawers that Cole had tucked away at her Dad’s house from when LB was a baby. Instead of getting bummed and feeling bad because we couldn’t buy the best of the best for this baby on the way, we decided to take a more realistic approach to the room and celebrate where we are in life, in this new marriage, with new budding careers, and got off our asses and we set to work and enlisted help from our creative friends. The nursery became a great mix of old hand-me–downs, hand made details, and a mix of Cole’s and my old knick knacks from our childhood and travels. When it all came together we realized that in the end - If we had plenty of money to go hog wild and buy anything, we would have filled this little room with all brand new stuff and not ended up with a room full of history and good memories. We wanted a room that felt great to sit in, and was familiar, and we pulled it off. It was a good reminder and very grounding for where we are at right now. Making the best out of what we have. And our friends contributed beautiful pieces to the room.

Check out the rest of the room and see where everything came from at Oh Dee Doh later today if you're interested in seeing more.
*UPDATE- The post is up at Oh Dee Doh.
Thanks for stopping by and it would be cool to see links if you have done a nursery post, or if you have done an anti-nursery post, or if you have ever actually used your nursery. I am surprised at how much we have actually used the room. I have heard that people go thru the trouble and then almost never step foot in them again.

I absolutely love the vintage feel of T's room. The colors are soothing. Just from the pictures I've seen around your blog, I can tell that you and Cole have a style and flair that I only wish we could recreate here. We do fairly well, but I like the crisp lines and colors that you two use.
Now before I go all HGTV on you, here's a room makeover that the hubs and I did for our oldest daughter (age 8). We're those people who decorated the nurseries and then never actually used them as nurseries, especially because we had chosen to have our babies' cribs in the room with us until they were around 9 months old. By the time we got up to kid 4, we learned to just buy new bedding and leave it at that. So, get particularly excited when it's time to re-do one of the kids' rooms now, because we know that it will be appreciated and used for its intended purpose. We actually just did this last month, and sometimes I still go in there just to admire how cool it is (if I do say so myself) and wish that I'd had a room like that when I was a kid: http://smartone.typepad.com/smartone/2009/06/show-and-tell-kyras-new-room.html

this is a link to a page with some beautiful photos of my friends townhouse in ny. she is the creative director at jcrew. they painted the ceiling of their baby's room yellow+white stripes so when he is in bed, he has a cool visual to look at. now that i think of it...i am going to send her to your page-she would love your photos.....
peace, maria
We technically have a nursery, but our 15-month old sleeps in our room and has since birth. His room is used as more of an occasional playroom/toy storage area, and so because of that I'm glad we didn't spend more time and money on it, but I can't wait to go all out with his room when he finally moves in and can tell me what he likes!
Tessa's room is beautiful...subtly feminine, and I just love the stork art. Very cool.
@ Maria- HA! I noticed she has a "gloomy" doll in their nursery as well. I put mine I got out of a claw game while I was in Japan into Tessa's room. Best bear ever. Pink and blood. Thanks so much for passing on the link.
@ Kymberli- HGTV! That is so much work! I bet they were so excited to see their rooms. right?! Tessa saw her room and fell asleep and then pooped in her diaper. Not very appreciate at all :)
P.S. Not sure why the bird struck me as a stork at first (baby's room, I guess)...but whatever it is, it's wonderful!
I love the look! I'm not a fan of the cookie cutter pink or blue nursery to begin with so this is definitively something I would see myself doing. 2 thumbs way up!
Seriously beautiful room. Normally nurseries make me want to say, 'Okay, decoration-wise you should have stopped way before the frills and bows' but Cole obviously has a talent!
It's true what they say, 'all good things come in small packages'...
I'm almost fearful of sharing a link b/c the one link that IS shared here kicks our nursery's ASS...not that there is a competition or anything!
Our theme was "do it yourself"...as in, as with the rest of our house, we just don't spend money on things we can re-purpose, re-build, etc... Now that The Dude is actually here, there have been alot of additions and extra crap added into the room...but this is how it all started..:*) Almost makes me nostalgic enough to have another one....(almost)
http://lotsawords.blogspot.com/2008/01/thoughts-on-week-35.html
I can't wait to see the pictures of your nursery, they are blocked at work but Apt Therapy is not...strange, computer wizardry.
This is great! I actually found out about your blog because of apartment therapy posting your maternity series.
Let's see P. Diddy top THAT crib!
I love nursery posts like this. In our case, we decided not to set up a nursery at all. Our bedroom has a very hand-made and hand-me-down thing going on - my husband and my father made our bed and our crib, the changing table is actually my childhood dresser, we store our linens in a hope chest that's been in the family for centuries, my husband built the boxes we use to store things like jewelry and medicines and old photographs, my sister painted the paintings we have up, etc. Since my MIL is out of state and since two of my sibs are out of country, we didn't want to eliminate the only extra room we have for them to stay in when they visit, and we haven't. I hope it works out! =P
I love that you've actually used the nursery. I've always wondered what people do when they don't set foot in their nursery again.
gorgeous! So so beautiful and your little will enjoy hearing the stories behind everything...
We're a co-sleeping family but our Little Bird has his own room, he's all boy (turns out you can run from gender assignation so much and then they just laugh at you) and so trucks and cars and hardy furniture are in display.
My husband and I also love to travel and so maps and flags of the world and knickknacks from our journeys dot the room...
I'm hoping he'll appreciate all of it when he gets older!
@ Sarah- Umm can you take pictures? That sounds really great. I think we use this room because (as you will see in the Oh Dee Doh post) it is literally just a little hub off of our room and so it is super convenient.
What a pretty and zen room! Love it!
absolutely beautiful. but i have to agree with others that our Lil E's room is really sort of a staging area and he lives/sleeps/changes in our room... I am hopeful that one day he will move to his own space, but for now I cherish the all night snuggle fest (yack, I know). BUT I will say we went the way of hand-me-downs and ebay auctions as well for his room and it came out just fine.
oh how wonderful! I also love apartment therapy so that's fantastic that you guys made it on there. What a great non-baby-looking baby room!
What a fantastic room! I just want to curl up in that big comfy chair and look at that painting all day. And I never would have thought to try that color combination, but it works beautifully.
So here's a link to my little boy's room, which was completely decorated with hand-me-downs and perhaps $250 worth of Ikea: http://the-arkansas-traveler.blogspot.com/2008/12/nursery-is-finished.html
The photos were taken about a month before he was born, so it still looked pretty bare. (And no kidding about how impossible it is to photograph interiors! These photos look so terrible, but it's really such a pleasant room.)
Anyway the nursery is much more colorful now that I've added some homemade decorations, which I got the pattern for off Oh-dee-oh, coincidentally one of my favorite blogs and how I came to find yours.
http://the-arkansas-traveler.blogspot.com/2009/04/crafty-mama.html
It's beautiful. Love, love, love the suitcase.
AYKM? You know Anna? I just hung out with her at her new studio last week! Isn't she insanely talented?
This is a beautiful nursey. In the photos it looks very calming and homely but undoubtedly stylish too. Our daughter is 13 months old and I posted some pics of her nursery on my blog a couple of months back:
http://talkingtounicorns.blogspot.com/2009/05/fit-for-princess.html
We also went for a DIY approach and the result is a very mixed up, colouful room but she seems to love spending time in it. Nowhere near as well pulled together as Tessa's nursery though!
The nursery is beautiful! I'm also in love with Apartment Therapy, heh.
what a beautiful, special little room.
we are moving our two-year old out of her nursery into her new room this week since we have a new baby coming in december and wanted to give her time to acclimate a little. lola's nursery had light taupe walls, white tab top curtains, pen and ink drawings by my grandfather on the walls, and a large hand-made piece of artwork my husband made for her before she was born of the view of the lake and woods off my parents deck on the wall above her crib. i wanted bright and airy. we bought mostly new furniture, but had an antique hutch that had been mine as a child for her books.
we did not spend as much time in the room as i originally pictured before she was born (she almost always slept through the night after moving out of the bassinet in our room, so there were not many night feedings or long nights in there. but i loved it.
So lovely and warm. She will feel very comfy here.
I bought the same bumper for my baby girl. I looked everywhere - chic boutiques, pottery barn kids, baby gap (!?), and settled on this one because it is simple and beautiful and functional. It looks really beautiful with a little striped sheet. I have loved it.
Heres a nursery I love that I posted on my blog, I'm sorry I don't remember the original source: http://5neals.blogspot.com/2009/07/nursury.html
We didn't use our nursery until our son Caleb was about 9 months old. Before that, he was in our room. The only thing we really spent money on was the crib which I love because it doesn't take up much room and can fit through a doorway so in the early days when we were going back and forth from our bedroom to his, it was super convenient. We have since rearranged things and Caleb is getting ready to move into his bed and the crib will soon be used by the daughter that will be born in September. I found the nursery to be a refuge, because when we were in there, everything could be about the baby and distractions were left outside. It is also a constant work in progress because the room must change to accommodate its occupant-who is constantly growing.
http://calebzulauf.blogspot.com/2008/10/lifestyle-of-handsome-and-famous.html
I re-did my boyfriends nieces nursery for her parents. I would say they didn't use it for a good year and a half. She slept in their room and they have a changing table in there too. Now with a new baby coming, they wanted to move her up into her "room" but it was pretty ugly. If I had more money and time (I did it all in the week they were gone on a trip to CO) I would have to have painted and made more original artwork for her room but just redoing alot of what was available in their house and repurposing stuff worked amazingly well. It also helped that I only paid for fabric and made the cushion, curtains, and painted the kids table which had been unfinished.
Check it out at:
http://anextendedvacation.blogspot.com/2009/06/verdict-she-loved-it.html
It's a little pastel-ey but she is maturally turning out to be a girly-girl much to her mothers surprise!
Now that the room is done and she is old enough to want to play in her room I would say the room gets a lot more use.
Hey! LOVE THE NURSERY.
If you're into Facebook, you should totally make a "fan page" for your blog. I was going to do it but it told me I must be official representation. Anyway, I figured a lot of your fans could join it and draw in more readers. I know I'd join!
seriously...that room is adorable and perfect, and it all looks brand new to me! If you hadn't said it was hand me downs nobody would've ever known. you guys are super blessed. Your house looks amazing! every picture you put up of your house looks like a freakin' ikea ad or something! its perfect...
my husband and I have had financial problems ever since we've been together, and after pumping out 2 babies back to back (oops) our financial problems went from bad to worse.
for the last 2 years we've been living in a trailor. a freakin' trailor...ok?
and not a sweet doublewide!
a singlewide 2 bedroom trailor with 3 kids.
mind you...Im a huge fan of old, sturdy houses with wood floors and big chunky trim and woodwork...
but here I sit in my trailor. : (
right now my washer is on spincycle, and my home is rocking...ok? dead serious.
I would kill to have your house.
kill.
one day soon Im gonna send you some pics of my house, that is "pieced together"
and your gonna feel like such a baller : )
I've been reading your blog since the first week of the maternity series, and I love ya'll. I wish we were friends in real life. Ive gotten a few people I know addicted to your blog, and we always talk about how blessed ya'll are, and how much we love ya'll. Cole is my role model.
you'll recieve some random pics of my trailor soon : ).
im SO happy for ya'll. <3
i really like the room. it's very subtle and tasteful. maybe i'm just boring, but i've always preferred a more gender neutral color palette in a baby's room instead of the pink or blue walls and a bunch of gender specific toys mashed in every conceivable spot.
looks very sweet. can't wait to see the ohdeedoh post. we have the same crib (well, 2 of them,) but darker. now to hunt down the hardware to turn one of them into a full bed for the boy. does yours do the same?
@ Mommymae- Yeah this is one of those super crib for life cribs and they work great. LB loved it and would probably still prefer it.
@ Brooke- We are so extremely lucky to be in this house. We are just scraping by, but keep the future in our sight knowing as we keep making strides in our career and gathering clients we will be able to catch up and get this house paid for. looking for the pics in my inbox.
@ Anono- Facebook terrifies me. But I am flattered that you think I would need a fan page.
What a fantastic idea. I love the idea of having friends create something rather than just filling the room with store bought items.
Our first nursery was our bed, but it worked out ok.
Ryan,
beautiful slideshow! is the nursery connected to the master bedroom? i thought i saw a hint of a bed in the background of one of the pictures.
My favorite thing is that it appears to be devoid of things that light up, make noise, and consume batteries.
(I use an old clementine crate for my gardening supplies...gloves, trowel, etc.. They're so handy!)
I love this little nest you've made for sweet Tessa. Everything about the room is just perfect!!
I love all the personal touches and resourcefulness. The fabric on the clementine box is genius!
I was wondering if you'd share where you got those adorable hanging vases that are attached to the bamboo shelves?
Great job with the room and photography!
Best wishes,
Logan
@ Logan - You can pick those up at Ikea in their kitchen dept. They are so affordable.
Ok... whoever designed this room should go into interior design as a profession. Every picture that I see of your house is beautiful and to know that you put this nursery together with hand-me-downs is amazing. I am sure there are things here and there that you, the decorator, might make changes to but an outsider would never guess that this room isn't full of items selected on a big budget. I don't think anything looks "thrifty" I think every piece looks intentional and lovely!
it is really cute. i love the pop from the green sash on the drapes. i have always loathed themed nurseries. i love that it is just an extension of your home.
Man, I wish I had nursery pictures. Rowan had a gorgeous nursery from Wendy Bellisimo. He slept in it like 3-4 times during nap time. The dude sleeps with us....he is almost 3....now he has an IKEA toddler bed in his brother's room that he has yet to sleep in....bed has been there almost a year. LOL! Yay to nurseries ;) You would think I would have had that figured out after decorating 4 nurseries prior.
PS are those little cloth diapers on the corner shelf? say yes and you're my hero's!
@Robin- They are :)
I think its fantastic. Knowing Cole, I see her in there a lot.. This room is so much better than the cookie cutter clouds with Winnie the Pooh decals all over the walls. You guys did good!! I love it.
super awesome nursery. it looks better than my entire apartment, lol. if only i could paint the walls...
anyway, since cole seems to be into crafts and stuff, this is my favorite DIY website, though she may already know about it. it looks right up her alley :)
http://www.designspongeonline.com/category/diy
that's the most amazing first room a kid can have. seriously impressed. the whole space has the same feeling to me that rifle blog has.
and you're super good at shooting interiors, btw. it's not an easy thing to do.
that room is so freaking cool.
oh my gosh. seriously.
gorgeous. beautiful. I love the mobile.
i'm in the process of re-inventing J's room- she wants an 'older' room and with lots of room for books. And the look? retro/modern if there is such a thing. her favorite colors are turquoise and lime green. Why am I blabbing? sorry- oh maybe Cole could throw me a bone over here! :)
curious where did you get that cubby thing where the flowers are hanging from? I'm SO loving that.
Here's our nursery that we just finished a few days ago. It's made up of mostly gifts that we put together for our turtle themed room...
http://shanleann.blogspot.com/2009/07/enjoying-wait.html
Our son uses his nursery every night and during naptime ... he has never slept in our room (he's a loud sleeper and would have kept both of us awake all night with his sleepy-time moans and babbling).
I'll try to do a post of his room sometime - in large part because I love how it came out. I am big into painting, so that is the majority of the decoration in the room. Yellow walls with a 4" horizontal red stripe six feet up, and vertical green stripes above that of varying widths. We did a farm theme, but we never really used much of the bedding we bought (except the wall-hangings - which have been used to distract him during diaper changes) so it is more of a primary color theme than anything. I just love his room.
I will say, Tessa's room is phenomenal. It feels so incredibly homey and girlish without feeling like you spilled Pepto Bismol everywhere. Kudos to you and Nicole for pulling off a fantastic, warm room on a small budget!
such a gorgeous nursery, and so special that all the pieces have a history and story. so beautiful!
What a great nursery! Before I had my son I was really obsessed with Oh Dee Doh during my nesting phase, in fact that is how I discovered your blog. We've also have ended up using our nursery much more than I anticipated, so the hard work was all worth it. Cloth diapering makes a changing table and station so much for necessary.
Lovely! The crocheted turtles are my favorite. The entire room is so sweet. Great job, you guys.
On a different note... It's going to be a while until Jeremy and I have a baby but the other day I was day dreaming about telling my family that I want to use Fuzzi Bunz and what their reactions might be and how to handle it...
So how are the Fuzzi Bunz working out? Are you getting any silly unsolicited opinions or advice from your friends/family?
what an exceptionally warm space for your little one, you two did a superb job! amazing what two creatively talented people can come up with together. very unique & love the history behind pieces used.
i too was curious on the wall color. love the print behind the crib- are those two painted squares on either side of the print?
the space is definitely overflowing with love, you guys will make use of it trust me. it took us 4 months with our first {shealyn} to get her into the nursery, but she grew to love her own space.
no pics yet to share of our 2nd nursery, these shots have so inspired me to get moving - not much time left.
do you mind me inquiring what lens you used with the rounded/whole room shot within the slideshow. very nice work {room & photos}!
I just looked at the slide show on apartment therapy and it is lovely.
I LOVE the nursery!
What a brilliant idea for a blog! I love it!
x
I'm loving 'the getaway' and am now off to view Oh Dee Doh ....
... and just as an aside, I feel like an absolute kiss arse. I'm always starting posts with "i love" .. I know, sad isn't it!!!
ps. forgot to say, where the fuck is all the pink frilly stuff? she's a girl don't you know!!!
i made a bunch of matching stuff for our nursery and painted but we never really 'finished' it because her crib is/was sidecarred to our bed and the room was empty without it!!
we've since moved and she doesn't have a room here. i hope eventualy we'll move and when shes ready she'll have her own room.
http://amelieslog.blogspot.com/2008/07/its-far-from-finished.html
thats what it was!! lol
xx
ment to add yours looks so gorgeous and homely!!
xx
Looks great! I would feel right at home.
simply beautiful
Congrats on being featured! I LOVE that blog (and yours!). Excellent!
Glad you asked to see others nurseries/kids' rooms today. I've enjoyed looking at everyone's masterpieces!
I ditto the need for a Facebook fan page! :)
Just perfect. Proof that style + taste doesn't equal cash spent.
lovely room! all the pieces are great!
I think it's brilliant that you mixed your things together. Tradition and history. It turned out adorable as well!!
As far as your photographing it ... did you recall loving doing that type of shoot for the challenge of it? Just curious!
brightest blessings on the four of you!
I absolutely love Tessa's room, it looks more personalized and filled with love. It's very easy to spend hundreds of dollars and throw in a few pieces of furniture but it takes love, patience, dedication, and great talent to really create this beautiful room. And thanks for introducing me to Apartment Therapy, I LOVE the site!
It's absolutely beautiful. I would love to be able to do something like that with my kid's rooms, but due to my accountant background, my left brain is not sufficiently developed to be that creative :)
I did a blog with my little one's rooms, but I didn't really finish the rooms since I felt so crap especially at the end of my pregnancy.
The best thing we got was the hammock, which Xavier sleeps in very soundly. We bring it into our room at night and he sleeps in his room during the day.
http://olgastuff.blogspot.com/2009/04/kids-rooms.html
You have inspired me to keep making my kid's rooms more personal and full of love.
Love your blog, it inspires me to be more real in mine.
LOVE this room! Everything in our nursery was either given to us or was already in our possession. It feels great to fill the room with things that mean something, doesn't it?
why do you have to be so damn cool! love love love every aspect in that room. It looks so snuggly and so unique. beautiful shots.
OH-SO-FABULOUS!
You guys are AWESOME!
Thanks for sharing (as always)!
Gorgeous!!
By the way, when can we expect a family photo?
it's stunning. what surprised me when I was pregnant was the generosity of our community. it really affirmed the belief that a baby does bring so much delight to so many people. And I agree whole-heatedly with you - filling your home with hand-made and hand-me-down imbues the space with love and positive energy. What a perfect sleep space for a new babe. x
I love Tessa's room! I'm trying to revamp an old office room to be a perfect room for our two toddlers and this gave me some great ideas. The Ikea shelf is GENIUS and will work perfectly for our needs but I had never thought to hang it on the wall. I was afraid we would have to spend a ton of money to get the room to be functional and nice for our girls but you've inspired me to look outside the box a bit.
By the way, I don't know if you've used them before but we LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the Fuzzi Bunz diapers! We've used them on both of our daughters (only one still in diapers) and they are phenomenal!
Ahh-mazing! Tessa is one lucky little girl to sleep and grow and play in that beautiful room! Your family is rad and clearly full of all the love in the universe :)
I love this room, you should be very proud of yourselves. It feels so comfortable and I've never stepped foot in it. I'm sure Tessa loves it because you created it for her!
Take care,
Angela
My one-month-old doesn't have a nursery YET, but we are moving to Florida in a couple of weeks and we'll finally have a bigger place and I'll get to set up a nursery for him.
(Speaking of which - Ryan, is there anything you can think of that I should know about living in Florida that I might not have already thought of? I've never lived on the East Coast - or in such a warm climate. I'm excited but also a little apprehensive.)
I've gone crazy thinking about all the ways I want to decorate my son's nursery. Here's my blog post with all my ideas:
http://thepottsfamilynews.blogspot.com/2009/06/jems-room.html
I completely LOVE Tessa's room. It gives me hope that I too can create a beautiful, fun little space for my baby even on a low budget. I love how personalized it is. I can tell just from the pictures how much love went into her room. You and Cole did a fantastic job!
i'm loving the old vintage side table :)
Frankly, I am in awe at the sheer coolness of Tessa's room.
You have done an amazing job in putting it together.
Personally, my own style is about old and new and mixing it up. I love that her room doesn't scream baby, it is cool yet you haven't bought into the whole dumbing down of a room for a (lucky wee) babe.
I am expecting my first child with my partner and I have felt really inspired by the journey you, Cole and LB have been on prior to welcoming Tessa, and now that she has arrived.
It fills my heart with such joy to read your honest musings on life and the things you deal with everyday and the way that you find pleasure in the little things - being in a tough financial spot can do that to you.
I have never commented before, it has always felt to naff, but I thank you for letting me, in a small way, be on this journey with you.
I have to say, I don't know where or how I came across this blog but I'm so in love with how you write and how in touch I feel with your little family.
I feel really good when I read your blogs and the way you end each one with "all the love in the universe"... Freaking incredible. Thank you.
super super super
Love this nursery and how personal and "non-Target" it feels! Especially love the mobile - great idea!
You and Cole did such a wonderful job on Tessa's nursery - it is full of warmth, beautiful details and personality. Love it! Congrats on the feature, too :)
This is once again a proof that a personal style, even though you're on a tight budget, is ALWAYS better than a prefab plastic cardboard way-too-expensive room. When will people finally understand?
My home is a mix of thrift finds, second hand design and handmade stuff, and I'm really happy with it. But my family-in-law doesn't understand a thing of it. They're the kind of people who buy a whole interior at a mall in one afternoon, and 'matching sets' is the keyword of their interior. It's so funny: my home has been featured in a few interior decoration magazines and every time I show them an article on our home I see them look at me with complete astonishment: Which magazine would like to feature that crap?
I guess it has something to do with their view on being 'good middle-class': that you can afford it to buy a set of modern matching stuff. I guess it's a bit too post-modern for them to understand that you can willingly choose for non-matching stuff... ;)
By the way here you can find some images of my nephew Kasper's room in the Netherlands. He was born just a week before your daughter was born!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/ninainvorm/sets/72157620492231472/
Oh it is so beautiful! Love the big chair instead of your usual rocker.
I can't wait to decorate a room in my house for when we have grand children. I want it to be very unique like this.
Do you guys even GET any cooler? Geez and Petes, People! Awesome, awesome nursery ... even better philosophy about the whole thing.
Holy moley. This space is so great! I especially love the sumo wrestler. And I always knew there was a use for those Clementine boxes! Wow. I'm totally happy for you guys. I love how there's a little spot just for the camera/camcorder. And the mobile! And the old window! Greeeeeeat job.
took us two years & another pregnancy to finally get this room all put together. mostly walmart, target, & other cheap bits of miscellany.
http://thingsidothinkwearseelovedream.blogspot.com/2009/03/do_2298.html
It's beautiful.
love the room! and apartment therapy has been my obsession for about 3 years and that is how i actually found your blog. i think i read the first 8 months in two days and have followed since. i look fwd to more posts when you return!
I had so much fun with our nursery:
http://thedoritochronicles.blogspot.com/2009/04/tiny-clothes-tiny-diapers.html
Lots of original artwork given to us by talented family members, a thrift store dresser spray painted hot pink, some Ikea furniture, etc. Definitely done on a reasonable budget and I love how bright and colorful it is.
As far as using it, Lulu sleeps in our bed with us, so she's not in there at night. But we change her diapers in there and "play" in there. She loves the bright green walls and stares at them during diaper changes. And it's the only room in the house with a rug so we lay on that a lot and play. So far no one uses it as much as our dog does, though. He loves that damn rug.
Tessa is just a perfect doll, by the way.
Love it! it is fresh but not overly baby/nursery!
good choices. :)
the nursery is gorgeous! and i agree- the whole "pink" color for girls is totally overrated... (though for those moms/dads who love pink- more power to you!) we're expecting a little girl as well and want to stay more neutral and let her decide her favorite color later on... in the meantime though, thank you for the inspiration!! :) & take care during your break!
i seriously ADORE your nursery. i think the reason you actually use yours is because it's a soothing, FUNCTIONAL room that you probably enjoy being in! it's not covered in the latest babys 'r us nonsense - pastel hell. ;) congratulations guys. she's the prettiest little darlin'.
Hi! I really love all your work, but this photo just reminds me of how much we can't wait to start trying for a little one and making everything for our family our very own. Thanks for sharing your blog! 'And "Tessa Tangerine"...I immediately fumbled dreaming up: Charlotte Cherry Strawberry and stopped there...'but your creativity inspires. I always look forward to reading new posts, so I thought I'd stop being anonymous and introduce myself. :)

I keep coming back to check and see if this nursery is as cool as I thought it was.
Yup.
