Putting it Altogether
I have had my head buried in my computer for the last few days trying to get caught up on a workload that backed up when my laptop fizzled and smoked. I lost all access to my editing programs. Ugh technology. Happily I am all up and running again, and have been slowly catching up. The delay caused a nice surprise, it had been a long time since I had my eyes fixed on a project, and then was forced away from it from some reason. So when I got everything going again, I was taking a second look at the pictures with a fresh set of eyes, I found I was picking all kinds of new selects, and dropping them into the "favorites folder." I felt like I had brand new eyes. Here are just two of the pics from the Ash & Chrissy wedding that made it into the favorites on the second pass, and they are two of my favorites over all. A nice reminder to look away and get a fresh perspective.

I keep meaning to get something regular going on here with our backyard farming exploits. It's getting serious around here, I have a super red sunburned neck, my jeans are always rolled up, and my fingernails are filled with dirt. Every morning, and as the sun tracks down it is designated garden time around here. I finally have it worked into our schedule and it feels good. The kids are into it, and LB is getting pretty decent at watering :)
We got to enjoy eating our efforts the other night, as the lettuce was the first thing we planted to be ready for devouring. Cole's family has a serious salad tradition, and so we have planted all the ingredients to make it fresh this season. It's super simple: lettuce, parsley, mint, cucumber, green onion, tomato, and for dressing a little olive oil, and some fresh squeezed lemon (salt and pepper to taste)
Yum

One of the last things we made room for in the garden was cantaloupe, and they pushed through this week and are ready to spread out. They already smell like cantaloupe. Who knew. I must have looked crazy laying on the ground, sniffing at the sprouts, shouting out: "They smell like cantaloupes!!"

The Littlest Buddy had a long streak of camera shyness and only just recently has started to request that I take his picture again. This morning, before school he started doing the camera sign, and then got super shy when I fired off a burst. He was really excited when he saw himself on the computer. I am hoping he is on his way back to his usual hijinks and showmanship :) I miss taking his picture.

And then all of the sudden, for no particular reason, Tessa decided she was ready to start standing up on her own. She knows it's awesome, because every time she does it, she lifts her arms over her head and lets out a squeal.

Here we go...
All the Love in the Universe~ Me

Look at those legs! She's got two Christmas hams in there!! So cute.
They are so adorable. I can't get enough of LB and Tessa!
Her family salad sounds a lot like our traditional family salad. It's a Mediterranean type salad that's cut into little chunks, minus the lettuce. You're growing cantaloupe?! I'm jealous. And I smell EVERYTHING. For long periods of time.
That squeal is Tessa's version of "Ta Da!" Looks like life is good in the Ryan/Cole/LB/Tessa house.
ps I love Cole's tank - more info please (did you ever imagine this would become a fashion blog too?)
@ Aura- They make another version of the salad minus the lettuce, everything cut into chunks and they tear up all the old Syrian bread from that week. Mix it all up and they call it Fatoosh. I love it.
My favorite memories as a child are of running around in my grandfather's garden. It was huge and he grew EVERYTHING. Cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, basil, string beans, carrots, I think even a few cabbage patch kids sprouted up in there...
Kudos on your garden. I know I'm a veggie lover because of my family and being introduced to fresh vegetables early on. SPINACH 4 LYFE.
Your red neck is epic. I think you need to share a photo.
mmm...FATOOSH! Also, you know, adorable babies or whatever.
that pic of LB nearly made me cry.
(such a soft spot for sweet boy angels.....)
Tessa chub-a-lub legs!!!!
Whoot! Rock on, Tessa! She's a champ. Reminds me of how when I was a toddler my parents would say "how big is jenny?" and I'd shoot my arms up and they'd say "So big!" Hell yes.
I'm jealous that you're garden is producing edibles. I'm so sick of this chilly spring we've got up here. It feels like my herbs sprouted and then decided to just stop.
Wow, sweet wedding photos, awesome garden photos, and cute kid photos all in one post. Are you trying to kill us with wonderful?!?
P.S. My veggie garden just got damaged by the late frost we had here in Virginia the last couple nights, so I'm super-jealous of your beautiful Florida veggies!
haha, go Tessa!
yay! salad fresh on the deck is so awesome. i can't wait to plant mine. oh fatoosh! jeebus that's good stuff. there is a thriving lebanese community in my area and do i love it! shawarma anyone? tabouleh would be awesome to make fresh from the garden too. yummm...
tessa is killing me. her cuteness brightens the world. and could your wife be any cuter?
oh & fresh eyes - that's what i call it. i insist on turning paintings over and walking away for a while to give myself those fresh eyes. i often look at pics iupload once, then go back some time later and edit then. it's amazing what you see later. thanks for the reminder, i sometimes forget.
When you talk about your morning routine I always cluck my tongue at what a total loser I am at starting my day productively. You're all gardening and sign language and I'm just staring at my dog telling her she doesn't need to pee.
ahh, that fat dimpled legs are too much for words! and LB's shy little look. Those are blessings! Is weird that I wish I was neighbors with your little family, but there are too many states between Tx and FL. I think it would be so much fun!
i love her little chubber legs! too cute!
We're getting closer every day to him standing on his own, but last week his big TA-DA! was climbing the stairs all the way to the second floor. (With my careful supervision of course.)
Mhh Fatoush. I'm so hungry. Is 11 too early for lunch?
Your garden looks amazing.
Little Tessa is so cute. Of course it's fantastic, it's the biggest thing that's happened to her so far... The countdown to walking has begun.
Mmm! Salad sounds and looks delicious!
I love sheepish LB and powerful little Tessa Tangerine with her mighty thubbies! ("Thubby" is our household word for chubby, tubby, adorable baby thighs!)
