The Mysterious Dog - Revealed

**I asked Cole to write a post about the BIG mystery.

I am going to be posting what the dog was looking at out the window tomorrow. She was a little confused about it.

What a fuss over one little ol' shaggy dog showing up in a picture. At Alt Summit during Heather Armstrong's panel, she joked about her dogs, and told us that most people will be more interested in your dog than your kids... Well it seems like that Heather really knows what she is talking about :)

So mystery over. This is Wendy, she was a homeless dog that was tied to a stop sign with a note tied to her that read: "found dog" as in-- you just found this dog. My boss found her and took really great care of her while she looked for her owners, Wendy had a vagina dread that had to be removed by a vet. Gross. Wendy was around the salon for weeks being cute and adorable to children that came in, and during that time I fell in love with her. Now she is our dog, she has a home now. The chip she had says she is from a Texas pound, but nobody registered the chip. The kids love her, Tessa LOVES her and might be guilty of giving this dog about 100 hugs too many in a day. Tessa is actually walking that fine line of becoming the little girl from Finding Nemo that all the fish were terrified of. There is a point every day where she starts lurching around like Frankenstein with her arms extended out, going in for hug 217 and the dog is running from room to room trying to hide. Wendy is a terrier beagle mix, and the vet guessed she is between 2 and 3 years old, and she pretty much rules. She came completely potty trained, walks on a leash like a show dog. Runs along side a bicycle like a pro. She is as fast as wind.

Wendy favors LB. I really like that she gives him confidence. He has a list of commands he uses: sit, crate up, go away, come, and of course no-no-NO. He will feed her at night, and helps with walking her. I love it when she surprises him and he says, "Oh My Gosh Wendy!!"

She was an unexpected surprise addition to our family, but now that she is a part of it, I can't imagine not having her. She fits right in with all of us.

Say hi to Wendy! You will be seeing a lot of her if she keeps sneaking into all the pictures like she has been doing.

P.S. A couple people asked about the rug... that green rug is from Ikea. We are slowly turning that room into a playroom. We are in the process of taking the house back from the kids, and building dedicated play areas for them, and rooms that are toy free. The toys take over so quickly.

** I forgot to add that someone asked about the Pug we once had. That little dog went to our GG Mama's pastor and his wife, and they dress her in clothes and made her a little dog house and bed, and feed her people food and treats. They love her and are not allergic to her. LB was really allergic to this dog. Before Wendy was allowed in the house, LB met her at the salon a few times to see if he had any allergic reaction to her. We had hoped after learning that a lot of terrier breeds are hypoallergenic, that LB would not have a problem with her, and we got lucky. We would have adopted her sooner, but had to make sure he would be okay.

I had to do the same thing. But I have one basket of toys in the living room still. That reminds me I need to go throw some of that crap out!! Wendy is super cool & any dog that let's a kid hug it 400 times a day is a keeper!

Oh my goodness! I wanted to adopt this dog after your boss showed me her picture and told me how awesome she was, but my landlord said "no dice." I'm stoked it went to you guys, she sounds super rad.

"oh my gosh, wendy!" that is so cute. sometimes i wish i could get a dog, but i don't think the boyfriend would like it and our place is too small. i'd feel guilty! wendy is so so cute, scraggly dogs are the best.

We have two terriers, schnauzers, that are absolutely wonderful. They don't shed, my husband is not allergic, and we treat them like they are our children. Actually... they are our only children so far. I could never live without a dog. I'm so happy for you guys!

Aw, hello Wendy!
Sounds like she went through alot. It's good to know she got paired with a great family in the end though.

Shes a beautiful dog! The furriest beagle cross I've seen :D

We have a beagle and they are the most perfect dogs for kids. My wee dude could ride bareback on that dog if he could and Max wouldn't flinch. I wish you many happy times with your new family member :D

they give and receive so much love.
i am glad your family and wendy found each other. :)

I have a JRT and a rat terrier beagle mix. Terriers are nuts, but they are so awesome! Yay, Wendy! :)

A dog is a wonderful thing! Congrats on the new addition to your family. How lucky for Wendy to have a found a forever home. Even luckier that it was with you all! Looking forward to many more Wendy installments in the future.

Such a lucky dog! & the mental image of Tessa running about like Frankenstein looking for the dog to hug is just too adorable! <3

Elly March 28, 2011 10:30 AM

! I can't believe that someone would do that to their dog! I'm glad that she was taken in and cared for (big props to your boss!) and now shes yours! Thats so wonderful :)

what a sweet picture into your world. wendy's a pretty lucky dog, too. the ying and yang of the love between humans and dogs is a special gift. and i LOVE that she and LB and big buds. there's nothing better than a little guy and his dog.
Oh My Gosh, Wendy!! {grin}

Monique March 28, 2011 10:43 AM

Wendy is such a cutie pie. So glad the kiddos love her. Vagina dread...Yikes.

mrs boo radley March 28, 2011 11:20 AM

NO way. When I was 7 (or thereabouts) my neighbors had a dog named Wendy that looked just like yours! Whoa.

alltheshinythings March 28, 2011 11:55 AM

She is adorable!

On a side note, I'm not sure if you struggle with allergies a lot in your house, but we did AAT and got rid of almost all of my daughter's allergies. www.allergytx.com. I swear I'm not affiliated! LOL! but you can get on their site and find someone close. It's incredibly seeing her eat eggs until she bursts after having massive eczema for 7 years from them.

Erin March 28, 2011 12:39 PM

hahaha, vagina dread...that's hilarious. but, in all seriousness, poor girl. glad she now has a lovely family who is so good to her!

Amber March 28, 2011 1:17 PM

OH MY! I did not even notice Wendy in the pictures from a couple of the previous posts. I had to scroll down to look and BAM, there she was. I swear you must have photoshopped her in... :)

So cute.

Dana March 28, 2011 2:54 PM

Who wouldn't want to hug Wendy 217 times a day? She's just about the cutest little thing ever. Congratulations on the newest member of the family.

nikki March 28, 2011 2:57 PM

what a sweet dog! we just adopted two puppies from a couple that couldn't keep them, and we definitely had to do the toddler hug test before we could officially agree. we've got some agressive little huggers in our family, so we needed pups with the temperament that can take it :)

Jason Hudson Dot Com March 28, 2011 3:05 PM

I've had vagina dread every day of my life. #ba-zing!

Shana March 28, 2011 3:13 PM

Precious! And my son is pretty much the same with our cats. 2 of them are completely terrifed of him and the other is like a Goldem Retriever in a cat's body. He just takes the hugs(abuse);-)Congrats on the cute addition.

laura March 28, 2011 4:29 PM

My found pup's name is Wendy too! Love it. She's a doll.

Linn March 28, 2011 11:49 PM

Is there a recording of LB saying "Oh my gosh Wendy"? I'm so glad that you guys have a pet for the kids. We have a rat terrier and our three love her to pieces.

Cath March 29, 2011 12:08 AM

Aawww Wendy.
It's true about the peeps loving anything with dogs or puppies. My lowly blog got an upsurge in hits when I posted a photo of our dog with a link to a blog post about him. Yay for the awesomeness of dogs...Yay!
p.s. What a treat for the kiddies on this one, too. So happy to hear your lovely family has expanded in such a sweet way.

How precious! Wendy is so adorable. I love those scruffy little faces. She is blessed to have found your family.

Octohawk March 29, 2011 7:21 AM

I <3 Wendy. She is so awesome.

J9 March 29, 2011 9:36 AM

i too was thinking, where did this dog come from and why hasn't ryan ever mentioned her before. seems like a great addition to the fam. pretty soon you'll have to completely surrender your blog to cole and wendy.

virginia-leigh March 29, 2011 1:18 PM

Ryan- what did you shoot with for these adorable dog pictures? I come to the site for the photography mostly and having just purchased my first "big girl" camera, I'm so interested in the bodies and lenses used.

Darcie March 29, 2011 3:29 PM

Congratulations! Yes, take it from Dooce and Pioneer Woman... and the author of Marley and Me. People are CRAZY about dogs. Since I adopted a retired racing greyhound, the second question people ask me after "How are you?" is "How is your pup?" Welcome. :)

Simone Nascimento March 29, 2011 6:36 PM

That adorable puppy! It combines perfectly with your lovely family! Thanks for sharing that with us (I used a Portuguese translator)

Becka Robinson March 29, 2011 9:58 PM

YAY! We love rescue pups. :)

Wendy is an absolute angel. Whenever I look into a dog's innocent eyes, I see God. They are the embodiment of everything that is good in this world. Please enjoy and take care of her!

jacqueline March 30, 2011 10:28 AM

She is adorable!!! I bet that dog is reveling in the sweet life she's found with you guys. (And Tessa, I totally identify with you. I hug my dog about 300 times a day!!!)

Stephanie March 31, 2011 2:24 PM

I love her eyebrows!! So happy this lucky lady was fortunate enough to find a loving home. A bizzillion Tessa hugs is better than ending up in the pound!

stephanie March 31, 2011 2:42 PM

hi wendy!!

you know the cool thing about rescued dogs? it seems like they really appreciate everything you do for them.

Mama Cas April 3, 2011 10:05 PM

Wendy is absolutely adorable....and I love the name. We are big on "real" names for our pets rather than those weird "Mr. Fluffypants" kind of names. We have Fiona the guinea pig and Charlie the dog right now. Possibly adopting another dog and I'd honestly love to name him Walter.
