Making Old Things New... and Chalky
You could see a little glimpse of it on the last post, and see what it used to look like HERE in this old post, but today I wanted to shine some light on it and give it an entire post all for itself. A brand new CHALKBOARD KIDS TABLE!!! Whenever Cole takes the time to sand and paint, and then sand and paint, then change her mind about the colors entirely, and then sand and paint four chairs and a little table all over again-- you bet your ass I am going to be a good observant husband, and be sure to acknowledge how perfectly awesome the project turned out, insist on taking some rad pictures of it, and then share it with the good people of the internet who read here. It really ties the room together, and when you have a bright ass green rug that is important to do.
I am joking a little just so you have something fun to read, but I love that Cole does this stuff for our family. We are spoiled. She is always thinking of great new things to make the house more fun for the kids, and at the same time not look super obnoxious for us. Why do most kids thing have to be such terrible colors to begin with, and plastic? Now she admits that a chalkboard table top isn't exactly ground breaking design work, plenty of other people have done this, truth be told people are really starting to slather chalkboard paint on too many things I think: "And if you come this way, this is our chalkboard room, feel free to chalk on anything in here, we even have chalkboard fabric paint. Here's some chalk, have fun." BUT, this little kids table looks amazing all over again, and Tessa plays at it pretty much non-stop. The table makes the room happy, and while LB still wants a touch screen machine over chalk, he will gladly sit at the table in style and eat some strawberries while Tessa goes to town on some chalk old school :)

As fabulous as this table is, (and I do mean that honey if you are reading this, I love it, you did such a great job!) this post isn't about the table itself, not really anyway. Well, it is right now. I am going to go write about it right now, because it's 3AM and I have hives from stress, and can't sleep.

this. is. awesome. nice work cole! (and great photos as well. your house is too cute. can i move in?)
Shelly, I know Cole will appreciate the feedback. She sanded those chairs down so many times... haha
And yes, you can move in as long as you potty train Tessa and cook all our meals. When can you start?
I just read an older post about how LB doesn't like new books... But I just read a really cute book called Alfie and the Apostrophe, and it might be something he'd enjoy once he stops hating the newness (if that's still the case; the entry was from a while ago) :)
you have a toy fridge! i want it:))))) and its not plastic either!awsome:D
great work with the table:) i never have patience to sand anything, i just paint haha
my husband wants the grass carpet:)
greets from Poland, please don't ever stop this blog:)
@Angela- LB loves new books after you read them a good 20 times and he memorizes all the pages. His world is made up entirely based on expectations and so new things are hard at first. But we always introduce new books slowly to keep things from getting too rigid. Thanks for the recommendation on the book.
@Agata Ma Piec - Hello Poland! You can get the green carpet at Ikea. You are in luck. I don't have any plans on stopping blogging. Not yet anyway :)
You had me CRACKING. UP. with that chalkboard room! Hilarious. The table really did come out great; I made note of it in your last post and so am happy to see it now featured. How long did the whole project take, revisions and all?
You have a wonderful person to share your life with, Ryan. I think every one knows that a good wife and Mama are the heart of the home, and Cole is just that.
@Laura- I am not sure how long. I would say days?! I will have to ask Cole. Glad I got a laugh out of you. It's a tough crowd.
@ Aura- She is most certainly the heart of this home. That is exactly what this post got me thinking about and kept me up all night dwelling on. I need to make sure she is as happy as she can be. Not sure making cute tables for the kids is going to accomplish that. More later. Of course :) You start work this week don't you? Good luck in the big transition, you will do great I am sure.
I think Cole did a pretty good job! i love the yellow on the table, and it's set up so pretty for the little ones to have a snack!
P.S me loves that green rug! where did you guys get it?
such a cute idea. chalkboard paint is magic!

Kinda crazy, I'm pretty sure we've been on the same wavelength recently!!
Just picked up a rug almost that color from IKEA for our little girl's nursery, AND painted a 2ft/2ft piece of wood with chalkboard paint for my new desk.
(And I'm sure that Cole knows just how much you appreciate and care because I feel like you do just from reading the blog!)
why do i seriously love how the sippy cup faces are staring up at the camera?
i also covet your play fridge. we have a kitchen and no fridge. luckily, sam's sort of food doesn't need cooling. (aka: he cooks hot-wheels and bouncy-balls)
love you guys. let's hang. i think i totally have a handle on this three kid thing already. (don't quote me, though...)
Where are those sippy cups from? I love them! And the chalkboard table, bien sur.
The table is awesome, and you have my dream toy kitchen there. Can we ask where you got that?
i love it. it looks awesome and now i want to sand and paint our little girl's table. so thank you for sharing because if it has been done before i haven't really noticed it until right now!!
Wow! I peeked at the link to what the table set used to look like and, I must say, Cole made it look so much better!
Too fabulous. Love the wee plate and cutlery drawings and that green rug completes the picnic-y vibe. Niiice.
